Brian Turner Show, Episode 29: Stray Cats from the Alleys of Tin Pan: Remembering Mark E. Smith with More Live Tracks and Rarities

Hard to believe, but Mark left this mortal coil three years ago and the world is still reckoning not only with the sprawling mass of material he left behind from 1978-2017, but still unraveling the sheer quality of it. The Fall were unlike any musical unit on earth, most certainly unlike any that grazed in the barnyard known as the Rock World. While much of the mainstream press has continually preferred to grab the easy straws of whatever personality-driven newsworthiness made for headlines, it certainly was never a concern for a man who was just too wrapped up in his work ethic to continue to produce evolving, artful, challenging and otherworldly sounds regardless of who was manning the backline and instruments. On this anniversary of his passing, we’ve chucked a new pile of sounds from my bag of rarities furnished to me over the years by so many friends with the same obsessiveness, hopefully in a good listening order for your enjoyment. If you liked this show you can check out some previous Fall-related broadcasts I’ve done: 2015 two three-hour episodes on WFMU (which featured inteviews with Marc Riley, Steve Hanley, and Brix, along with a great in-studio Spectre Folk session of Fall covers, stream Part 1 and Part 2 ), and a 2018 memorial after his passing. As for this radio show, new episodes every two weeks at this site and you can get these shows also at: Soundcloud,  Buzzsprout, Deezer, PodchaserPodcast Addict. And Apple Podcasts too. We are streaming the show live every other Wednesday (this episode on January 14th, 10am ET/4pm CET) on Efferalgang Radio in Paris, and those archives will live on their You Tube channel thereafter. If playing right off this embed below results in some holdups, just click on the actual other links and stream. Or just download on Apple Podcasts. Thanks as always for tuning in everyone, it’s much appreciated and been great being back in the radio saddle for this long, weird year. We love to hear from you on socials, or send music direct too, btradio85@gmail.com.
