WRKC 88.5 FM! Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Where I first cued up a record. I was Music Director, Program Director, Station Manager during my college days. Blew off lots of classes. Went to first NYC and Philly shows. Fell asleep in the office and forgot to flip the Radio Home Visitor reel. Changed my major so I could fall asleep in the office even more. Won an EMF contest and had my prize trip to the New Music Seminar absconded by a higher authority. Fell asleep at the console and forgot to flip the Album For Lunch. Got a late night call from John Kay of Steppenwolf driving through. Got lots of prison mail and got invited to judge an inmates’ talent show ( I was late and booed by a gymnasium full of criminals). Sue Henry, who was there as MD and GM is still the head advisor and keeping the kids excited about radio and asked to re-cast some of my past shows of more recent years (post-WFMU) so I passed her a bunch and you can now drive up and down Wyoming Avenue and hear me Sundays 8-10 PM ET. My old slot! ‘Live’ radio on 88.5 FM. No archives there. If my college-era shows happen to surface please throw them into the Susquehanna. You can still hear my up-to-date EVR shows here as usual weekly, but if you’re tuned terrestrially on 88.5 FM or streaming WRKC live Sunday nights, you can get a swipe of the recent past. Maybe I’ll get to do a few live there sometime I’m back. I would really like to start using a cart machine again, hopefully it’s still there.
